I have a family very proud of there old Spanish blood line but I find the Indian and black and sometimes white people of the USA not knowing of us because of the Mexicans and puerto ricans that have brown skin and don't seem to remember 500 years ago what a true Spanish speaking person looked like.

Unfortunately many Spaniards are racist towards the 5%-14% minority of moors. The moors invaded Spain during the middle ages . Eventually most of them were chased out but there is still a percentage that mixed in . Penelope Cruz is part moor from one of her grandparents. Your typical Spaniard is dark haired with pale yellow or olive skin (Iberians) . they usually have green to brown eyes. Even though they can be shockingly white and they tan slow in Europe they can get a darker tan (If persistent) than most white people even those dark Italians , and dark Germans. The Iberians are the racial group responsible for most of Spain's culture. The flamenco , music , bull fighting , and religion is based around them. Before Spain and Portugal became two countries and before the moors, the Iberians used to worship a pagan Bull god and they would chase bulls along the ocean's coast (Mediterranean) to try to harness their power. Iberians are now today the majority of Spain and they are pretty much all the Portuguese . They make up the whites in Latin America (white Cubans, Brazil (Adriana Lima) Colombia (Shakira), Argentina etc. ) and there is a mix of them in Ireland. But the moors came up with the spices in the food , and some of the shiny gold and middle eastern like architecture.. The stucco houses and Gothic stuff though is the Iberians (or castillians as they are called in Spain) and the Catalones (the blond haired and light eyed people) . You should of taken European Spanish class that stuff is interesting. now a days the moors have blended in and people are more accepting , and the Iberians have forgiven them for their ancestors trying to take over Spain. By the way I am an Iberian Irish who is part Slavic German so that tanning stuff is true for me and my pale friend Liz from Spain.

Many of the people I know from Spain are so European, that you would never know they were Spanish unless you know them. One of my friends who lives here is a freckly redhead. Not a drop of Moorish in her. Most of the Moors stayed in the more southern half of the country...anyone north of the line that runs through Madrid East to West is most likely not at all Moorish.

And, by the way, not too many people alive who remember 500 years ago.

I know my brother's DNA results. Maybe he is the exception and not the rule!

It is really funny because Spain is a real melting pot, Human Spanish DNA is as old as Homo Sapiens if we do not count Archaic Humans. A mix of Phoenicians/Carthaginians, Iberians, Celts, Greeks, Romans,Germanic Tribes(Visigoths,Suebi,Vandals), Alans/Alani from the North Caucasus(Aryans),Berbers from North Africa, Arab Moors from Mauretania (N Africa). Spanish blood is enriched by all these mixes. A strong breed of many ethnic groups

mmmmmmmm Given that the arabic/moorish blood is only in around 3% of spanish population, I don't really know how does that make them not white.......... You clearly don't really know what the reconquista was, obviously....... and obviously you don't know that most of the people in islamic spain were actually from the same race that the people living in that area before the islam got there and even before the romans were there......... Obviously...... you're a troll

I'm not knocking your pride in your ancestry ... I think it's important every person is proud of who they are

however I think your pride in the purity of your bloodline a bit worrying ... what if you or one of your children wanted to marry someone who wasn't of the same pure spanish blood ... would they be excluded from your family? .... would their parents forbid them?

500 years ago the Catholic Kings were fighting the Moors for Spain but when all is said and done Spain is deeply rooted in Muslim tradition and with North Africa and Morroco only 15 miles away from the Iberian peninsula one day they will be back to take over. Incidentally you cannot find a white caucasian Spaniard.

Why in the world would it matter?
